From 1996 to the present, he has been working at the Ulyanovsk State University as a professor, head of the department.

He has been teaching since 1986. he gives lectures on the following disciplines: "Biology with the basics of ecology", "Genetics", "Ecology", etc.

He has a government award - Honored Worker of Higher Education of the Russian Federation., is an "Honored Worker of Science and Technology of the Ulyanovsk region".

E.M. Romanova is the head of a twice certified scientific school, under her leadership 28 candidate and 1 doctoral dissertation were defended.

The sphere of scientific interests of E.M. Romanova covers such subject areas as: aquaculture, production of functional products in aquaculture, feed and feed additives for aquaculture, ecology of aquatic organisms.

E.M. Romanova is the head of the Laboratory of Experimental Biology and Aquaculture, which has a modern, well-equipped experimental base of high-tech industrial aquaculture, which is intensively used to obtain professional competencies in the training and retraining of specialists in the field of aquatic bioresources and aquaculture. Over the past 10 years, projects in the field of aquaculture have received grant support from the RFBR. Within the framework of the E.M. scientific school functioning at the Department. Romanova, who was recognized as the "leading" in the Ulyanovsk region, conducts fundamental research on the mechanisms of the influence of probiotics, adaptogens, vitamin-amino acid complexes on metabolic processes in the body of fish grown in industrial aquaculture. A technology for the production of fast-growing environmentally friendly commercial fish for functional purposes in the UZV was developed. A universal polyvalent functional feed additive "Pravad" with the properties of a vitalizer was developed, results were obtained proving the high efficiency of its use in fish farming.
